The creation of “KooKs for the Cure” came about somewhat as an idea at first and not so much a cookbook. It turned out both of us suffered from various, somewhat common, illnesses (nothing serious, thank goodness). By simply altering our favourite everyday dishes to conform to our nutritional needs, many of our symptoms subsided. Many friends and family members became curious to know what it was we had changed. Simple, we told them, we eat what you eat, only a healthier version of it. It didn’t take too much encouragement for us to decide to put together a healthy eating alternative to our otherwise everyday. So what started out on a somewhat smaller scale has escalated to something we are very proud to call our “kooky baby”. We are especially proud of the fact that proceeds from every book sold will go to support breast cancer awareness. We were alarmed to learn that “1 in 8 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, sadly 1 in 26 will die. Cancer research estimates that 33% to 50% of breast cancer cases may be PREVENTED through healthy eating, maintaining a healthy body weight and physical activity. Only 22% of women in Ontario meet the required guidelines for diet and physical activity.
